Cleaning House – Finding Treasures

Well summer is underway and we have been busy cleaning house. Not only the regular cleaning of windows, counters, floors, clothes, etc. but these past few weeks we were gathering “stuff” for a yard sale. I am amazed at how much we collect over the years and how fast time flies.

In the midst of sorting, pitching, and putting things aside for the sale, I came across a wonderful treasure I lost about a year ago!

Here’s the story…We were hosting someone at our home for a friend, so I was making the home presentable and getting ready by, cleaning, getting dinner for the family, taking out the trash, doing the dishes. In doing so, I must have put aside an old box in a side room saying I would get it out of the way and finish it another day. As I pulled out of the drivewayto pick up our guest, I looked down and saw that my wedding ring was missing! I just put my cell phone in my pocket with that hand, so I checked there. I searched the driveway, vacuum bag, and other places throughout the coming weeks. My mother gave me a ring to wear that was a family heirloom but it wasn’t the same as mine. The strange but wonderful thing is that I was not anxious about loosing it even though it was so dear to my heart! God was preparing me for a remarkable discovery.

I recently got back into the side room to get down and dirty pitching and sorting old papers. I came across the box that had another box on top of it. The box was falling apart but I proceeded to take out the used items and papers and put them in a garbage bag. I thought, “Why am I doing this? I should just put the garbage bag in the box and put it out on the curb.” In my next look as I reached into the box, I saw my ring right in the corner of the box! It must have fallen off when I was moving it.

Deuteronomy 11:12b ESV
The eyes of the Lord your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.

God faithfully reminded me that he hasn’t left me. He cares for yard sales, wedding rings and our cleaning house!
